Authorities warn residents of Georgia against crowded weddings

New coronavirus infections in the Georgian Region of Guriya have to do with a crowded wedding, said Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Centre for Disease Control. Authorities have urged the population to refrain from large-scale celebrations.

On September 5, the "Adjara-TV" Channel suspended its work after coronavirus was confirmed in an employee thereof.

Crowded gatherings are one of the main reasons for the infection spread; and new infection cases in the Guriya Region are "very likely" connected with a large-scale wedding, Mr Gamkrelidze has stated.

"We have repeatedly pointed out that we are living in a pandemic; and in Georgia it is prohibited by the law to gather more than 100 people," the website of Georgian TV Channel One quotes him as saying.

The lady owner of a clothing store in Batumi said that now it is wedding season in Adjara; and girls need new outfits; so there are many buyers. On September 1, according to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, customers constantly came to the clothing store to buy dresses for attending weddings; and they all were without medical masks.

According to Rusudan Shavishvili, the head of the Adjara Health Centre, 29 new infection cases have been registered in Georgia for the last 24 hours, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports.
