Cheldiev, activist from Vladikavkaz, complains about custody conditions at SIZO
The court has upheld the arrest of Vadim Cheldiev, accused of organizing riots at a rally in Vladikavkaz. The activist said that he had been kept in a solitary cell for five months and had been restricted in receiving parcels from relatives.
On August 6, the advocate, Batraz Kulchiev, said that a new article appeared in Cheldiev's case – about organization of mass riots in Vladikavkaz. The mother of the arrested activist has complained that law enforcers had prevented her from holding a picket in defence of her son. On August 13, Cheldiev's arrest was extended for other three months.
Investigators treat Cheldiev as the initiator of the rally in Vladikavkaz; he is accused of publicly disseminating deliberately false information about coronavirus, as well as of extremism, hooliganism and attacking a law enforcer. Cheldiev explained the clashes at the rally as law enforcers' provocations.
The advocate has noted that Cheldiev's arrest was extended up to seven months, contrary to the practice of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), according to which any detention for more than five months is treated as excessive.
The action of opponents of the self-isolation regime, of organizing which Cheldiev was accused, was held on April 20 in Vladikavkaz. The protesters demanded the resignation of North-Ossetian head, government and parliament. Law enforcers dispersed the activists-participants of the action.
