Armenian and Azerbaijani MoDs claim shelling in conflict zone

During the last 24 hours, positions of the Azerbaijani militaries were shelled for 38, including those stationed in villages on the border with Armenia, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported today. In its turn, the Armenian MoD has claimed seven Azerbaijan's attacks during the same period.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the situation on the border of the Tovuz District of Azerbaijan and the Tavush Region of Armenia escalated on July 12. The Azerbaijani side announced the death of 11 of its soldiers and one civilian, and wounding of four soldiers. Given the four killed and 20 wounded people on the Armenian side, the count of victims since the start of the aggravation on the border made 40 killed and wounded people.

According to the Armenian side, the situation on the border aggravated after the Azerbaijani troops had tried to break through the border. In its turn, the Ministry of Defence of Azerbaijan claims that the conflict escalated after the Armenian armed forces had attempted to go on the attack.

"During the last 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire for 38 times in various sections of the frontline," the Azerbaijani MoD has stated on its website today. According to the MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani Army deployed in the villages of Alibeili and Agbulag in the Tovuz District and in the village of Zamanly in the Gadabay District came under fire. The shelling was also carried out from the territories that Azerbaijan treats as its occupied ones, says the message.

The Azerbaijani MoD has called as disinformation the statement about the attack of its militaries on the combat post located in the Tavush Region of Armenia. "There was no new attack from our side; and we have no losses," the APA News Agency has quoted today Vagif Dargyakhly, the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani MoD.

"In some border sections, the opponent has violated the ceasefire for seven times, by firing about 20 shots from small arms of different calibre at Armenian positions," the "Sputnik-Armenia" has quoted Shushan Stepanyan, the press secretary of the Armenian MoD, today.
