Tourists treat Dagestani Muftiate reminder about dress code as excessive

The Muftiate should not have urged tourists to observe the rules of decency in dress, since they already treat the Dagestani Muslim traditions with understanding; and the clergy's obsessive guidelines can scare them away, the guests of Makhachkala have noted.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Dagestani Muftiate, while referring to complaints of local residents, called on the guests of the republic to respect local traditions by their behaviour and appearance. The clergy cannot dictate to guests how to dress, residents of Dagestan and social network users have pointed out. Residents of other Russian regions, who come to Dagestan, had observed the generally accepted rules of decency well before the Muftiate urged the guests of the republic to observe the dress code, the owners of recreation and public catering entities, who work with tourists, have stated.

Tourism in Dagestan lacks good servicing and infrastructure, says Oksana from Rostov-on-Don. There are sandy beaches here, unlike the pebbly Black Sea beaches, but they are not equipped at all, she has noted, expressing her regret about the lack of recreational activities, suggesting that this is due to restrictions because of coronavirus.

Mikhail, a tourist, who came to Makhachkala with his friends from Moscow, said that he comes here for the second time. He has noted that if investments are made into the infrastructure, Dagestan can become a more attractive region for tourists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that "fighters for morality" attacked Dagestan back in 2018. They managed to cancel the anime festival, a number of concerts and film screening.
