Azerbaijani resident detained in Armenian border village

In the village of Areguni in the Gegarkunik District, employees of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia detained an Azerbaijani, who claimed that he worked as a shepherd in the border region of Azerbaijan and decided to leave the country, the village head has reported.

The incident took place around 10:00 a.m. local time on June 12.

"The 26-year-old Azerbaijani was detained on suspicion of illegally crossing the state border in the north-eastern direction of the contact line of armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan," an NSS official told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Azerbaijani said that due to difficult living conditions he decided to leave Azerbaijan, and since the nearest border was with Armenia, he crossed it and occurred in the Armenian territory.
