Ruslan Amirov arrested again in Azerbaijan

Ruslan Amirov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been arrested for 15 days. This is his second administrative arrest within the last two months. The PFPA believes that Amirov is being persecuted for his political views.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, Ruslan Amirov was arrested for 30 days; and on May 9, he was released after serving his administrative arrest.

In the afternoon on May 28, Ruslan Amirov was detained in the Masalli District in Southern Azerbaijan while making purchases at the clothing marketplace, Seimur Khazi, a PFPA deputy chairman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"On May 29, the Garadag District Court of Baku sentenced him to 15 days of administrative arrest under the article of petty hooliganism (Article 510 of the Azerbaijani Code of Administrative Offences)," Mr Khazi has stated.

It was not possible to find out exactly what Amirov was accused of, since the trial was closed under the pretext of the quarantine regime in effect in the country, and the advocate invited by the PFPA couldn't arrive at the court session in time. "Only after the session, we were told that Ruslan was arrested," Seimur Khazi has added.

He has linked the Amirov's detention with the fact that he is a voluntary bodyguard of Ali Kerimli, the PFPA leader.
