Doctors treat girl's circumcision in Ingushetia as exceptional

Female circumcision is not a common practice in clinics of Dagestan and Ingushetia, but doctors can make such surgeries secretly, medics have commented on the story of the nine-year-old girl, who was circumcised in Ingushetia. The child risks having a psychological trauma from the surgery itself and from the public resonance, a Dagestani psychotherapist has pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a woman from Chechnya had stated that her ex-husband had taken their nine-year-old daughter, without her knowledge, to a clinic in Magas, where she was circumcised.

The girl's reaction to circumcision should largely depend on how adults explained it to her, Akhmed Azizov, a sexologist is sure. "If a child grows up in a Muslim family; if she was told that this procedure brings her closer to Allah, then the harm will be minimal. If they failed to explain anything to her, it will be a serious psychological trauma," he said.

According to the professor, this procedure may not affect the girl's subsequent sexual life.

Female circumcision causes a psychological trauma, says Saida Sirazhudinova, the president of the Centre for Studying Global Issues of the Present and Regional Problems "Kavkaz. World. Development".

Let us remind you that in Dagestan, a wide discussion of the problem of female circumcision began in August 2016 after the study conducted by the "Legal Initiative". According to the authors of the study, similar surgeries were made on tens of thousands of women.
