Residents of Grozny complain of fines for violating "mask regime"

After the introduction of mandatory wearing of medical masks in public places, law enforcers in Grozny began imposing fines on violators, they would not be lenient, local residents complain.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier the head of the Chechen Ministry of Public Health and the World Health Organization had assured that masks were unable to protect against coronavirus. Police rebuked almost 20 men detained without permits and masks.

Residents of Grozny said that since May 6, control measures applied by law enforcers have been significantly tightened.

"I have heart problems; and the doctor advised cycling ... On May 8, I ran into a patrol. They detained me for leaving home without a permit and mask. I tried to explain my situation, but that didn't help. A policeman said that they had an instruction to detain all those without masks and especially without permits. For the first time they fined me by 5000 roubles and warned that it's better not to leave home," said a resident of the republic.

Malika Azarova, a pensioner, said that recently she had not seen people without masks in stores.
