Finland held a symposium "Democracy and Human Rights in Russia"

On November 23, the capital of Finland hosted a symposium "Democracy and Human Rights in Russia," the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" was informed at the Society of Finnish-Chechen Friendship. A significant attention at the conference was given to violations of fundamental human rights in North Caucasus, political repressions against opposition in Russia and assassinations of opponents to the power in the Russian Federation. We remind you that presently Finland is chairing the EU.

The symposium was organized by the "Suomen Pen" (Finnish Pen Club) journalists' and literary association of Finland with participation of the "green" fraction of the parliament of the country.

The event was opened by deputy Ms. Heidi Hautala, leader of the "green" fraction, who stood in January 2006 for the post of the president of Finland. The sitting was attended by local and foreign public figures, including Russian opposition politicians and human rights activists.
