Azerbaijani authorities: number of infected people grows because of quarantine violations

In Azerbaijan, the spread of the coronavirus infection has accelerated, and that fact may lead to toughening of the quarantine regime, announces Yagut Garaeva, the spokesperson for the Azerbaijani operational headquarters. Azerbaijan has detected 2060 cases of the coronavirus infection, and 26 people died.

Starting from March 24, Azerbaijan has been under the quarantine. People over 65 years old are forbidden to go out, while others are allowed to leave homes in special cases. On May 1, the authorities announced an extension of the quarantine regime until May 31, but with the lifting of some restrictions.

526 patients still stay in medical facilities. Of them, 21 patients are in the severe condition, 27 – in the condition of moderate severity, and the condition of the rest is stable, the operational headquarters reports.

According to Yagut Garaeva, the increase in the number of new cases of the coronavirus infection has accelerated because of the people's failure to comply with the quarantine regime and social distancing.

"Mitigation of the quarantine regime requires citizens to be socially responsible. People are to comply with the quarantine regulations, sanitary standards, and social distancing. However, today, unfortunately, many people do not comply with the above. The numbers clearly show that the situation is developing under the worst case scenario," Yagut Garaeva said on the air of the "Public Television" of Azerbaijan.

The spokesperson for the Azerbaijani operational headquarters has also noted that if the trend continues, the quarantine in the regions will be tightened.
