Telegram user detained in Chechnya reports his cooperation with Tumso Abdurakhmanov

Law enforcers identified at least 10 residents of Chechnya involved in posts left on the odious Telegram channel "Osal nakh 95", a source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported. One of the detainees publicly apologized for his actions and confessed that he was transmitting information to blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. The confession threatens the detainee with serious problems, his fellow countrymen suggest.

"It's one thing to write posts on Telegram groups, and it's quite another thing to transmit information to Tumso Abdurakhmanov ... I believe the man will have worse problems than those people who had been identified as authors of posts on the channel 'Osal nakh 95'," believes local activist Sultan.

The Telegram channel "Osal nakh 95" became well-known after on March 11, Chechen Instagram public accounts posted an apology of a young man who introduced himself as Marat Tsumaev. In particular, the young man apologized for writing "unacceptable things" about women.

Authors of the publication emphasized that local residents forced Marat Tsumaev to apologize.

Both users of social networks and residents of Chechnya interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" harshly criticized Marat Tsumaev for his posts. According to the adat (a Chechen local customary practice), Marat Tsumaev faces public humiliation for insulting women, regardless of whether a woman is guilty of something or not, human rights defender Aset Malsagova explains.

"To insult a woman means to insult a family. By tradition, Marat Tsumaev should be punished with being sent around the city without his pants, no matter how wild it sounds," Aset Malsagova said.
