Law enforcers ban German resident from leaving Chechnya

Chechen law enforcers set free Shamkhan Baidulaev, a kidnapped resident of Germany, but seized his documents, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Shamkhan Baidulaev, a native of Chechnya, came from Germany to visit his relatives in Chechnya. According to them, in March, unidentified people kidnapped Shamkhan Baidulaev in the Achkhoi-Martan District. A brother of Shamkhan Baidulaev recorded an audio appeal to the Chechen authorities with a request to help in the search for the kidnapped man.

On March 26, two weeks after his kidnapping, Shamkhan Baidulaev was found at a police station. On March 30, law enforcers let him join his relatives, but seized all his documents and forbade him to leave Chechnya, the HRC "Memorial" reports on its website.

Shamkhan Baidulaev lived in Germany for seven years, and in October 2019, he came to visit his relatives in Chechnya.
