"Novaya Gazeta": Chechen law enforcers beat quarantine violators with pipes

Law enforcers with polypropylene pipes in hands are on duty on roads in Chechnya and use pipes against quarantine violators. Local residents report that they beat up people who drive in cars without masks, although it is impossible to buy masks in Chechnya, the "Novaya Gazeta" writes.

The article "Quarantine from under Stick", published on March 29, was accompanied by a photo: it shows law enforcers walking along the street with white pipes in hands. The newspaper says that the photo was sent by residents of Chechnya. The article says that earlier the use of polypropylene pipes by Chechen law enforcers was confirmed by inmates of secret prisons.

A video showing law enforcers with polypropylene pipes was posted on March 29 by the "Baza" Telegram channel. It shoes a detachment of men in black uniforms walking along the street with white pipes in hands.

"Policemen were equipped with special sticks (pipes) to be used against violators. They promise to apply them to those who violate the self-isolation regime," the caption to the video says.
