Salary paid, Tkibuli miners stop striking
Workers of the Dzidziguri Mine are back at work after the company bosses have partially satisfied their demands. Working in mines is still unsafe, but miners have to maintain their families, they have stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 16, workers of the Dzidziguri and Mindeli Mines in Tkibuli again went out for a protest action. At a press conference in Tbilisi on March 17, they demanded to open access to reports on mine status. The public access will provide confidence in miners' safe work, human rights defenders believe.
Workers of the Dzidziguri Mine resumed work on March 20, after the bosses of the "Steel International Trade" Company agreed to partially satisfy their demands. "The company has paid full salaries for the days of the strike to all the workers," Roind Saralidze, a miner, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"We came to an agreement with the company bosses that negotiations will be held within a month to improve the situation at the Mindeli Mine, as well as at the Dzidziguri Mine," he said.
Miners said that they had to resume work in hazardous mines because of the need to get money.
