Azerbaijan claims 23 shelling attacks from Armenia

The positions of the Azerbaijani troops were shelled, including in two border areas, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 6, Azerbaijan claimed 24 shelling attacks on its positions within 24 hours. In turn, Nagorno-Karabakh registered 200 shelling attacks from Azerbaijan over the week from January 26 to February 1. However, monitoring of the OSCE mission in the Karabakh conflict zone did not register any ceasefire violations.

"Units of the Armenian armed forces 23 times violated the ceasefire in various directions of the front within 24 hours," the Azerbaijani MoD has reported on its website today.

According to the Azerbaijani MoD, the positions of the Azerbaijani army were shelled in the village of Gizilgadjyly in the Gazakh District and at the nameless heights in the Gadabay District.

Till present, the Ministries of Defence of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have not yet posted on their official websites any comments on the statement released by the Azerbaijani MoD.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.

  • Lawyers comment on scandal with equipment sale on behalf of "Akhmat" special unit

Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit. But these actions have seriously discredited the "Akhmat"; and it's possible that Chechnya's enemies are behind this, a political analyst has suggested.
