Moris Machalikashvili sentenced to conditional term

After concluding a deal with investigators, Moris Machalikashvili, a participant of the clashes with the police outside the Georgian Parliament, has pled guilty and was sentenced to two years of conditional imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Moris Machalikashvili's case was set aside into a separate proceeding, as his relatives have decided to conclude a procedural deal.

After the June 2019 riots in Tbilisi, 19 persons were detained and accused of using violence during protests. Among the detainees there was Moris Machalikashvili, a nephew of Malkhaz Machalikashvili, whose son was shot dead during a special operation in Pankisi. Malkhaz has linked Moris's arrest with the father's demand to set up a parliamentary commission to investigate the circumstances of his son's murder.

Moris Machalikashvili has signed a procedural deal and confessed in the courtroom to using force against policemen during June 2019 protests. However, he said that he didn't take part in assaulting the parliament.

In accordance with the deal, he was sentenced to two years of conditional imprisonment, the Channel One of Georgian TV has reported on its website.
