Azerbaijan claims 24 shelling attacks on frontline

The positions of the Azerbaijani army were shelled on the border with Armenia and in the Karabakh conflict zone, the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 31, Azerbaijan fixed 23 violations of the ceasefire by the Armenian party.

"Within the past 24 hours, units of the Armenian Armed Forces, by using heavy machine guns, violated the ceasefire in various sections of the frontline for 24 times," the Azerbaijani MoD said on its website today.

The shelling was conducted both from Armenia and from the territories controlled by Nagorno-Karabakh authorities, the MoD's statement reports.

As of 9:10 a.m. Moscow time on February 1, no reactions to this statement appeared on the websites of the MoDs of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

After the escalation of the Karabakh conflict in April 2016, the parties to the conflict agreed on a ceasefire, but the confrontation did not stop. In 2019, Azerbaijan registered a period of almost complete ceasefire on the front, which lasted about a month, and Nagorno-Karabakh announced the lowest number of shelling attacks on its positions within 10 years.

  • Lawyers comment on scandal with equipment sale on behalf of "Akhmat" special unit

Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit. But these actions have seriously discredited the "Akhmat"; and it's possible that Chechnya's enemies are behind this, a political analyst has suggested.
