Narek Malyan detained at "Veto" office in Yerevan

Narek Malyan, the head of the "Veto" Socio-Political Movement, has been detained in Yerevan. His supporters are sure that the detention is politically motivated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Veto" Movement pursues an oppositional policy; in particular, it protests against the activities of the "Open Society Institute-Assistance Fund" (known as "Soros Foundation") in Armenia. According to the movement's supporters, the "Soros Foundation" has been operating in Armenia for a long time, but only under the current authorities it has such an impact on politics.

Narek Malyan was "detained by masked people," Migran Akopyan, a political analyst, has noted in his Facebook page. He has posted a video, in which the masked agents in uniform are twisting Malyan's arms and putting him into a car.

According to Akopyan's story, Malyan was detained in front of the "Veto" office in Parpetsi Street. "Malyan has never refused to come to the police station; and this was a mask show, with the use of violence, when Malyan was laid on asphalt and handcuffed like a dangerous criminal," Migran Akopyan has noted. He believes that Malyan's detention is purely political in nature.

In its turn, the police have spread a statement that "Narek Malyan was detained by law enforcers on suspicion of illegal acquisition or possession of weapons."

  • Lawyers comment on scandal with equipment sale on behalf of "Akhmat" special unit

Lawyers have noted that it is practically impossible to hold the scammers accountable for the fact that they had sold stolen property, posing themselves as fighters of the "Akhmat" Chechen special unit. But these actions have seriously discredited the "Akhmat"; and it's possible that Chechnya's enemies are behind this, a political analyst has suggested.
