Chechen woman publicly repents for practicing witchcraft

After a conversation with a theologian, Roza Murdalova, a resident of the Urus-Martan District, has repented of providing occult services, the "Grozny" TV Channel reports. The woman was forced to repent, some residents of Chechnya suggest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2019, the Chechen authorities intensified the persecution of people engaged in provision of occult services. In the period from July to December, the "Grozny" TV Channel showed at least 10 reports in which local residents repented of being engaged in practicing witchcraft. However, in Chechnya, the demand for the services of magicians is not weakening, Instagram users note.

In a conversation with the chief doctor of the Centre for Islamic Medicine, Roza Murdalova has said that she repents and intends to continue strictly following the norms of religion.

The detainee looked scared in the TV report, notes Marina, a staff member of an NGO.

"I don't know how sincerely the woman repented, but she looks rather scared. The attitude towards magicians and witches in society is negative. Many people even think that they should be punished according to the Sharia law and not just forced to abandon their services," added Israil, a resident of Chechnya.
