Nagorno-Karabakh authorities respond to disabled persons' requests to create conditions for participation in elections

At the national elections in Nagorno-Karabakh, citizens with health problems will be provided with the necessary conditions at polling stations for voting. This was announced by Srbui Arzumanyan, the chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Nagorno-Karabakh, during a CEC's regular meeting held on January 15.

In particular, a decision was made to create conditions for citizens with visual impairments. Magnifying glasses will be provided for visually impaired citizens, and Braille voting bulletins ‑ for completely blind voters, Srbui Arzumanyan announces.

For persons with reduced mobility, in particular, wheelchair users, the appropriated conditions will be created in a number of polling stations. A mobile ballot box will also be arranged, Srbui Arzumanyan reports.

Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan, who got visual impairment, praised the CEC's package of solutions for people with disabilities. "Last autumn, the Ombudsman's Office sent its proposals regarding the access to the voting process for people with disabilities. We appreciate that our proposals are taken into account," Artak Beglaryan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
