Raul Khadjimba refuses to run for president

Aslan Bartsits, Vice-President of Abkhazia, has announced that Raul Khadjimba, who resigned as a result of mass protests, will not take part in the early presidential election.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on January 12, Raul Khadjimba, President of Abkhazia, agreed with the demand of the protesters and sent a document to delegates of the People's Assembly, which announced his resignation of powers "for peace and stability."

"Raul Khadjimba decided not to run for president," Vice President Aslan Bartsits has announced before the today's parliamentary meeting. Meanwhile, he has refused to disclose the reason for the Raul Khadjimba's refusal to participate in the presidential election, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Let us remind you that on January 9, hundreds of people gathered outside the administration building of the President of Abkhazia and seized it. They demanded the resignation of Raul Khadjimba. On January 10, the Supreme Court (SC) of Abkhazia granted the lawsuit filed by Alkhas Kvitsiniya, the leader of the "Amtsakhar" Party, to cancel the results of the presidential election, in which he lost to Raul Khadjimba only 1000 votes.
