Tbilisi entrepreneurs and opposition unite in protest against authorities
Minor entrepreneurs refuse to fulfil the demand of the Tbilisi Mayoralty to transfer their trade from the square near the main New Year Tree to the parliament building. Opposition activists, dissatisfied with the dispersal of protesters, have joined their protest action.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 3, a protest rally outside the Georgian parliament led to activists' skirmish with the police. Protocols on petty hooliganism and disobedience to a law enforcer were drawn up on Lasha Chkhartishvili, an activist of the Labour Party of Georgia. The activists' aim was to support the entrepreneurs, who had refused trading in the place, where protesters' tents had been set up.
On January 4, about 100 entrepreneurs and opposition activists of several youth movements gathered for the protest action. They demanded from the Mayoralty not to force merchants to move from the First Republic Square to the square near the parliament building during the New Year holidays.
Lasha Chkhartishvili has threatened that if the Mayoralty fails to make concessions, a protest rally will be held on January 5 near the house of Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor, the "News-Georgia" has reported.
