Austrian law enforcers suspect Chechen natives of benefits fraud

Two couples from Chechnya have illegally received 280,000 euros of benefits, the Austrian police have stated.

According to Austrian law enforcers, in 2011-2019, one of the families received 160,000 euros; the other family was unreasonably paid 120,000 euros.

The damage was made to the social service of the city of Graz and the employment service. Immigrants from Chechnya failed to report their travels, additional revenues and trips to Russia, the Austrian edition OE24 has reported.

In her turn, the rights defender, Svetlana Gannushkina, states in her report "Why do Russian residents seek asylum in Europe?" that the practice of deporting asylum-seekers from Russia, including migrants from Chechnya, back to their homeland is gaining momentum in Europe, which is a violation of the principles of the international law. According to the report, victims of domestic violence, of unlawful criminal prosecution, as well as those who are oppressed for their religious beliefs, are seeking refuge in Europe.

Human rights defenders have also treated as an example of Chechenophobia the detention in Strasbourg of two Chechen migrants suspected of justifying terrorism by their gestures when they made selfies.
