Chechen residents criticize Salakh Mezhiev's re-election as Mufti
The Muftiate of Chechnya has re-elected Salakh Mezhiev as its head. Local residents associated the re-election of Salakh Mezhiev with his support for the policy of the republic's leaders.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Salakh Mezhiev became the Mufti of Chechnya in 2014. In October, Ramzan Kadyrov congratulated Salakh Mezhiev on becoming a member of the Royal Jordanian Academy of the descendants of the Prophet Muhammad. Social network users noted that Salakh Mezhiev had got no higher spiritual education, and blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov and some of his commentators ridiculed the Salakh Mezhiev's adherence to the Sufi rites.
Salakh Mezhiev addressed a congress of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Chechnya and spoke about the significant role of Ramzan Kadyrov in the spiritual life of the Chechen republic, the "Chechen.info" reports.
Residents of the republic, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, expressed different opinions concerning the personality of the Chechen Mufti: some noted his modesty and unpretentiousness, while others claimed he had not got proper knowledge of religion.
