Lawyers treat expulsion of Grozny college students as excessive measure

In Grozny, the ban on shooting videos in a building of the College of Culture and Arts does not comply with the requirements of the law, and expulsion of students for re-singing a rap hit at the educational institution can be challenged in court, lawyers suggest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomed Basnukaev and Khalimat Tepsurkaeva, students of the College of Culture and Arts, were expelled after re-singing "Propaganda", a composition by rapper Miyagi. The administration of the educational institution explained the expulsion of the students by a ban on video in the building.

Advocate Nadezhda Ermolaeva suggested that students Khalimat Tepsurkaeva and Magomed Basnukaev were expelled from the Grozny college "for belonging to a modern youth subculture that someone could find reprehensible."

"Video shooting is an excuse. Most likely, the students were expelled for the content of the composition which some of the administration officials did not like," Nadezhda Ermolaeva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to the advocate, the situation with the expulsion of the students is "controversial and requiring court proceedings." "I would challenge the ban on video shooting on the territory of the college. The ban is not perfect from the point of view of the law. Of course, the educational institution can formally introduce any rules, but they may be challenged in court at the location of the educational institution," Nadezhda Ermolaeva concluded.
