Advocate complains about ban to visit blogger Isaev in Azerbaijan

The Saint Petersburg blogger Elvin Isaev, who was deported from Ukraine to Azerbaijan, is accused of anti-state calls for "mass riots". The advocate, hired by his relatives, has stated that the investigating body is protracting with his access to the client; therefore, the advocate doubts the objectivity of the inquiry.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 14, Saint Petersburg blogger Elvin Isaev was detained in Ukraine "for violating the requirements of the migration law" and deported to Azerbaijan, where he was brought to a SIZO (pre-trial prison).

On December 18, the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) spread a statement on the Isaev's case. "On December 12, 2019, Isaev, Elvin Iltikham oglu, a citizen of the Azerbaijani Republic, was deported to Azerbaijan for breaching the migration legislation of Ukraine," the GPO has stated, adding that Isaev is under arrest on charges of "public appeals against the state" and to "mass riots."

Gyulara Ilyasova, an advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that Isaev "had pled guilty" and "has no complaints about the custody and treatment conditions."

However, Vugar Khasaev, the advocate, hired by Isaev's relatives, said that he couldn't visit his client yet, despite the fact that he was contracted back on December 16.

"This is a violation of both my rights and those of my client; and this already casts doubts on the objectivity of the investigation," Mr Khasaev has stated.
