Chechen woman fined for rubbing baby with snow
A court has found the rite of "hardening" a three-month-old child, whom his grandmother rubbed with snow, to be an offense. The mother of the baby was fined, although, according to Chechen customs, parents have no right to object to their own parents, local residents have noted.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this November, the Chechen Prosecutor's Office (PO) got interested in the video, in which an elderly woman rolls a baby in snow, hoping to make him brave. The manipulations with the baby triggered a sharp condemnation of social network users.
According to the outcomes of the prosecutor's check, the grandmother of a three-month-old baby was rubbing it with snow; the video was shot on November 2.
The baby's mother was fined under an administrative article on non-fulfilment of parental duties, the Chechen PO reported on December 6 on its website.
The court has ruled to fine the mother by 500 roubles, a source from the PO told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The locals interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" disagree with the fine imposed on the mother. "In fact, it would be fair to punish the grandmother for this procedure. Our mentality should be taken into account here. The daughter-in-law and even the father cannot object to the baby's grandmother or grandfather tempering, petting it and so on. Any objections are treated as indecent; it's not customary here," said Idris, a local resident.
