Law enforcers disrupt memorial ceremony for victims killed in Nardaran
Policemen did not allow holding in a private house a memorial ceremony for activists of the movement "Muslim Unity", who were killed four years ago during a special operation in Nardaran. The police told organizers of the memorial ceremony that they had to obtain a sanction from the authorities for holding their event.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 19, Elchin Gasymov, the deputy chairman of the movement "Muslim Unity", was warned that the police would not allow holding a memorial ceremony on November 26 to mark the anniversary of the events in Nardaran.
In November 2015, riots occurred after a special operation in Nardaran. After the riots, there were mass arrests of supporters of the movement "Muslim Unity". The court found Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity", and 17 of his supporters guilty of organizing the riots.
Elshan Gasanov, the coordinator of the "Union for the Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" (UFPPA), treats the actions of the police as unlawful.
