Volgograd doctor punished for insulting LGBT activist

The psychiatrist who behaved unethically after his patient, Vladislav Pogorelov, answered the question about his sexual orientation, was disciplinary punished, the Public Health Committee of the Volgograd Region has reported. The Committee has apologized to Pogorelov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to Vladislav Pogorelov, an LGBT activist, he had repeatedly encountered manifestations of homophobia in Volgograd, including during visits to doctors.

A disciplinary punishment was imposed on the doctor for insulting Pogorelov; and the hospital staff was reminded of their professional ethics, the Regional Public Health Committee has stated today in response to a request of the "Caucasian Knot", without specifying, however, the essence of the disciplinary punishment.

Earlier, the Committee had checked Pogorelov's complaint and apologized to him. "The facts of the unethical behaviour of the psychiatrist <...> have confirmed," says the letter of the Committee of May 31, a copy of which is available at the "Caucasian Knot". "I was pleasantly surprised by the Health Committee's response," Vladislav Pogorelov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
