Azerbaijani law enforcers launch special operation on border with Russia
On November 20, in the regions of Azerbaijan bordering Russia, the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan launched an operation to combat transnational crime and terrorist organizations.
The large-scale operation was started on November 20. It is held annually by the law enforcement bodies in the northern and north-western regions of Azerbaijan on the basis of the agreement between the Azerbaijani and Russian sides.
The operation "Border Shield" will end by November 24. Police checkpoints were arranged at the entrances to the areas involved in the operation, the RIA "Novosti" reported on November 20 with reference to a source from the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan.
The main purpose of the operation "Border Shield" was to neutralize transnational organized criminal groupings and members of terrorist organizations, the "Media.az" reported on November 20.
The law enforcement bodies intend to detect and block the channels for the entry of weapons, explosive substances and devices, and narcotic drugs into the country, as well as to stop the flow of financial and material means used to carry out various illegal actions, the "Sputnik-Azerbaijan" reported on November 20.
