In Armenia, law enforcers detect scheme for forcing women to leave their children
In Armenia, employees of a maternity hospital threatened women to force them to abandon newborns so that they could be adopted by citizens of Italy, the National Security Service of Armenia suggested.
According to investigators, two citizens of Armenia helped Italian citizens adopt more than 30 children born in Armenia. The suspects used their contacts in the maternity hospital, which employees forced women to abandon their newborns.
"More than a dozen women, who for personal or social reasons resorted to artificial termination of pregnancy in 2016-2018, fell victim to a criminal grouping. The suspects threatened the women to uncover the fact of their pregnancy and provided incorrect information about diseases of newborns. The criminals forced the women to write letters to abandon their children and sign permissions for their adoption," reports the National Security Service of Armenia on its website.
The investigators suggest that the newborns were then sent to orphanages, while employees of the orphanages violated the rights of Armenian citizens to the priority adoption of infants.
