Religious figures are critical of Lebanese theologian's attacks on Mufti of Chechnya

The video clip by Abdurrakhman Dimashkiya, a Lebanese theologian, criticizing the Mufti of Chechnya, will not be able to influence the position of Salafis in Chechnya, the interviewed religious figures have noted.

Chechen authorities condemn the followers of the Saudi preacher Mukhammad Ibn Abdel-Wahhab, but, at the same time, emphasize their love for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Abdurrakhman Dimashkiya says in his video clip addressed to Salakh Mezhiev, Mufti of Chechnya.

The Russian president made nothing good for Chechens, the Lebanese theologian has stated, reminding deaths and destructions in the republic during the Chechen Wars.

Mr Dimashkiya is not an influential theologian, said Riad Mustafa, an Arab journalist.

Serious theological discussions cannot be held productively in the format of video messages; such videos can only kindle disputes, Khadjimurat Gatsalov, the Mufti of North Ossetia, believes.

Igor Alekseev, an Islamist, has suggested that the critical message of the Arab theologian could be initiated by Kadyrov's opponents.

"There's a Chechen Diaspora living in Europe; and there are members in it not loyal to the Chechen authorities," he has explained.
