Azerbaijani human rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev delivered to Istanbul hospital

A special plane took to Turkey Ogtai Gyulyalyev, who stayed in critical condition after a road traffic accident in Baku. Ogtai Gyulyalyev will not come out of a coma during several weeks, his doctor suggests.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Turkish doctors invited by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation offered to transfer human rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev for medical treatment in an Istanbul hospital.

On October 29, in Baku, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Committee against Repression and Torture, was hospitalized after a press conference at which he outlined a plan for a campaign against torture. A car driver hit Ogtai Gyulyalyev at a pedestrian crossing, reported a son of the human rights defender. Azerbaijani oppositionists and human rights defenders have suggested that Ogtai Gyulyalyev was intentionally hit by a car. The victim underwent surgery and stays in a coma.

Ogtai Gyulyalyev has already been delivered to the Avrasya Hospital in Istanbul, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by Tabriz Gyulyalyev, a son of the human rights defender. The young man has noted that the flight did not affect the health state of his father. The special plane left for Istanbul at 11:00 a.m., and the flight lasted three hours, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Baku airport.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation took over not only payment for the special flight, but also all expenses for medical treatment, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an agent of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The patient may stay in a coma for several weeks, says Professor Adil Qeybulla, involved in the treatment of Ogtai Gyulyalyev. "There is no regression in the Ogtai Gyulyalyev's state. However, unfortunately, there are no positive changes either," the doctor told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
