Azerbaijani oppositionists join their efforts against authoritarianism

In Azerbaijan, leaders of several opposition parties and activists of civil society held a meeting at which they agreed to jointly oppose the authoritarian regime in the country.

On November 5, at the initiative of the "Musavat" Party, a roundtable meeting of a group of opposition politicians and civil society activists took place at the party's office behind closed doors.

Arif Gadjily, the leader of the "Musavat" Party, reported that participants of the roundtable gathered to discuss the socio-political situation in the country and decide what needed to be done to achieve democratic changes.

Following the meeting, a memorandum was adopted. The participants who signed the memorandum agreed on "the functional cooperation in the construction of a legal democratic state, the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, and the fight against an authoritarian regime."

"We have agreed that there is no need to voice mutual accusations within the opposition, but the efforts should be directed at fighting the authoritarian regime," Arif Gadjily told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent after the meeting.

Arif Gadjily has also noted that the participants of the meeting demanded to release all political prisoners in the country.
