Pickets in support of journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev held in Makhachkala

In the capital of Dagestan, activists have held a series of pickets with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that members of the editorial board of the "Chernovik" hold pickets in support of their arrested colleague every week. So, on October 25, eight persons came to the rally.

Today, employees of the newspaper "Chernovik", Akhmed Akhmedov, one of the Abdulmumin Gadjiev's advocates, a mother and an aunt of the journalist, as well as his friends and supporters, have again held a series of pickets in front of the buildings of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the FSB, and the Investigating Department for Dagestan of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) in Makhachkala. According to the "Kavkaz.Realii", about ten people took part in the protest action.

On June 18, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an editor of the religion department of the newspaper "Chernovik", was arrested in a case on financing terrorism. The journalist is being prosecuted for posting his articles on Islamic topics, believes Magdi Kamalov, a founder of the newspaper "Chernovik". The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized Abdulmumin Gadjiev as a political prisoner.

It should be noted that today, the court has dismissed a complaint filed by the journalists against the policemen, who detained them on June 22 after the pickets with the demand to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev.
