Human rights defenders detect problems of compliance with safety standards at Georgian enterprises

On October 23, the Human Rights Education and Monitoring Centre (EMC) held a meeting at the Open Society Georgia Centre, where the results of a survey of labour safety conditions at Georgian enterprises were presented to the public.

"According to our survey, in 2019, yet before the end of the year, 71 people were injured at enterprises, and 25 others were killed," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by an officer of the EMC's press service.

David Mazniashvili, the chair of the Labour Protection and Employment Association of Georgia, considers the level of accidents as extremely high.

"For our country with the population of four million people, this is a very high figure. Such a significant number of accidents are connected, first of all, with poor observance of safety standards at enterprises, as well as with the weak state's control over working conditions," David Mazniashvili told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
