The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has registered a complaint prepared by human rights defenders about torture and murders in a case of killed Dagestanis in Chechnya on behalf of their relatives, the "Legal Initiative" reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 12, the Supreme Court (SC) of Russia refused to transfer from Chechnya to another region the consideration of the case of eight Dagestani residents, who, according to the Chechen law enforcement bodies, were plotting a terror act and were killed in a shootout. The human rights defenders filed a complaint to the ECtHR about the ineffective investigation into the case, and an appeal against the court's decision to return the case to Grozny for consideration was lodged to the Judicial Board for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Russia. On September 19, the Russian SC dismissed the appeal against the refusal to transfer the consideration of the case of the killed Dagestanis from Chechnya to another region, reported advocate Andrei Sabinin.

The complaint, prepared by the project "Legal Initiative" and the human rights organization "Agora" on behalf of the relatives of the killed residents of Dagestan, was registered at the European Court of Human Rights, reported on October 21 the "Kavkaz.Realii" with reference to the "Legal Initiative". In their appeal, the human rights defenders point to a violation of articles of the European Convention on Human Rights on the right to life, the prohibition of torture, and the right to an effective remedy, the "Kavkaz.Realii" reports.
