Ingushetia: convict in "Ordzhonikidze Jamaat" case complains of torture

Bagaudin Opiev, a resident of Ingushetia, convicted for helping militants, has sent a video to the "Caucasian Knot", in which he told about torture after his detention and during the investigation within the case of the "Ordzhonikidze Jamaat".

On February 6, 2018, the North-Caucasian District Military Court sentenced nine residents of Ingushetia charged with helping militants-members of the "Ordzhonikidze Jamaat" to long prison terms; Opiev was assigned 14 years in prison.

In his video, Opiev said that he was detained on June 9, 2016, and was brutally tortured all the night.

"They broke my ribs; because of torture, I lost 80 percent of my sight in my left eye, and 70 percent in my right one," Opiev said.

He asserts that later, in the course of investigation, he was repeatedly tortured with the aim to obtain his confession. According to his story, he had to sign some testimonies just in order to survive.

Magomed Mutsolgov, an Ingush human rights defender, has suggested that the "Ordzhonikidze Jamaat" never existed.

Let us remind you that during the trial on the above case, eight out of nine defendants, including Opiev, reported torture; however, no criminal case was ever initiated on their applications.
