Ortsin-Mokhk residents criticize quality of new apartments

The dwelling neighbourhood of Ortsin-Mokhk located in Grozny has transformed after reconstruction, but builders left unfinished work in apartments and used cheap materials.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Grozny authorities decided to combine micro-districts Nos. 35 and 56 of the Oktiabrsky District and name the new formation after General Ortsu Chermoev, a participant in the Caucasian War on the side of the Tsarist Russia. Local residents had criticized the authorities' decision.

The opening ceremony of Ortsin-Mokhk took place on October 5 and was timed to the City Day, as the Grozny Mayoralty told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ortsin-Mokhk residents have noted positive changes.

"Instead of dilapidated barracks, now we have multi-family cottages, instead of gravel roads – asphalted ones. Public transport has finally been launched," said Sultan, a 55-year-old local resident.

However, he has noted that he has complaints about the interior of apartments: "The workers did low-quality repairs; and there're unfinished works there."

Vakha, another elderly resident of the neighbourhood, told about dampness in the rooms of a new house. "Everything seems OK and looks nice from outside, but the dampness is felt in the rooms, the stucco was poorly done in some places, doors need to be reinstalled in order to open and lock normally," the man said, assuming that "cheapest materials were used for interior decoration."

In the opinion of Ismail, a 37-year-old resident of Grozny, the construction blunders were caused by the haste in construction. "Houses and cottages were built in just three months; the construction went on almost around the clock. I am a builder myself and I know that the high pace of construction is always badly telling on the quality," the man said.
