Defence reports keeping Azerbaijani activist under arrest

The arrest of activist, Rafael Guseinzade, expired four days ago, but he is not at large yet; his advocate treats it as a human rights violation, unprecedented for Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 3, 2019, a court in Azerbaijan arrested Rafael Guseinzade for the third time since the start of the year. His prosecution has to do with his pickets and political activities, Elshan Gasanov, the coordinator of the "Union for Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan", believes.

Keeping a person after the expiration of his arrest term is a gross violation of the Constitution and the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), the advocate has stated.

Fizuli Guseinov, Rafael's father, is convinced that his son is persecuted for political reasons.

Fizuli Guseinov also took part in protests demanding release of political prisoners. In summer of 2018, he was arrested and held a hunger strike in custody.
