Court leaves Ingush activist Katsiev under arrest

The court has ruled to extend the arrest of the Ingush activist, Khasan Katsiev, by three months.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Khasan Katsiev and two other activists – Akhmed Nalgiev and Rashid Aushev – were detained on April 23 within the case of clashes with law enforcers at a rally in Magas. Katsiev's father and advocate complained about law enforcers' attempts to force Khasan to plead guilty.

According to Vitaly Zubenko, a lawyer of the "Agora" international human rights group, his client's gratitude and honour certificates, received during Khasan's service in law enforcement bodies of Ingushetia, were presented to the court, but this had no effect on the ruling.

Magomed Katsiev, Khasan's father, criticized the investigators' arguments that his son could hide or put pressure on witnesses. He has added that Khasan's 1.5-year-old son is sick: "There are a lot of problems at home; and Khasan's absence has a great effect on our home life. We hope that my son will soon return home soon," Magomed Katsiev has stated.
