Dagestani resident Miyasat Kitalaeva sentenced to 13 years of imprisonment

The court found Miyasat Kitalaeva, a resident of Makhachkalka, guilty of involvement in a unit of a terrorist organization and sentenced her to a long term of imprisonment. The defence insists the woman is not guilty.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that public prosecutor requested the court to sentence Miyasat Kitalaeva to 17 years of imprisonment. The testimonies of witnesses and the results of the examinations speak in favour of the defendant, the defence objects. In her final speech, Miyasat Kitalaeva asked the court for a humane sentence.

According to the public prosecutor, in February 2016, Miyasat Kitalaeva joined militants in the Tabasaran District and took part in the kidnapping of two residents of the Djuli village. The armed grouping which carried out the attack was a part of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia, the public prosecutor suggests. The defence claims that Miyasat Kitalaeva got acquainted on the Internet with a young man who suggested marrying her, but took her to militants in the forest, where she was kept against her will.

The North-Caucasian District Military Court sentenced Miyasat Kitalaeva to 13 years of imprisonment. The defence intends to challenge the verdict.

According to the court, Miyasat Kitalaeva, born in 1994, did not work formally before her arrest. The woman has no children, and she has no earlier criminal records.

Let us remind you that on June 17, relatives of Salman Gadjikurbanov, a victim in the Miyasat Kitalaeva's case, reported that among the attackers on their house, they identified Rasmin Magomedov, a resident of the Djuli village. According to the law enforcement bodies, on April 20, 2016, Rasmin Magomedov, a member of the "Southern" grouping of militants, took part in the arson of a school building and the robbery of a shop.
