Georgia's GPO threatens to arrest Meliya
Nika Meliya, an MP from the oppositional "United National Movement" Party, has violated the terms of his appointed freedom deprivation measure, when he took part, without a due permit, in a political talk show on a local TV channel, the Georgian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has stated. In case of a repeated violation, the GPO threatens to arrest him.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 27, 2019, the Tbilisi City Court released Nika Meliya, who was accused of organizing group violence at Tbilisi protest, on bail.
Nika Meliya is suspected of organizing, leading, and participating in group violence during the protest action in Tbilisi on June 21, 2019.
In the afternoon on September 13, the GPO summoned Nick Meliya to clarify the violation of the freedom restriction measure appointed to him by the court. In particular, the GPO indicated his violation of the ban to leave his apartment without a GPO's permit, and to make political statements in public places.
Despite the ban, on September 10, Meliya went to the "Kavkasia" TV Company to take part in a political talk show.
The GPO's statement says that in case of a repeated violation, the investigating authority will resort to a more severe measure of freedom restraint.
