Rostov LGBT activists complain about police inaction

Law enforcers have refused to initiate a criminal case on the applications of Anna Dvornichenko, a Rostov LGBT activist, submitted after two attacks and threats against her. Polina Raizman, another activist, has complained about police inaction in searching for the man, who threw a smoke bomb at a café.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" reported that on July 31, Anna Dvornichenko needed doctors' help after she was attacked during her picket in defence of the LGBT community. Later, on August 4, the same man disrupted a lecture on the feminist movement by throwing a smoke bomb into the café.

After the second attack, Ms Dvornichenko turned to the police, but this gave no fruit, she told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I wrote three applications: two about the attacks and one about threats to my life and health," said Anna Dvornichenko, adding that they refused to initiate a criminal case.

Several applications were submitted about the man, who had thrown a smoke bomb, but nothing is known about the progress of the investigation, Ms Raizman told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"After the incident, I again turned to the police; the on duty officer said that this guy was announced wanted. After that, no one called me from the police, to tell how the case was going on; I know nothing. All is quiet; and, therefore, there are no results," said Polina Raizman.
