In Ingushetia, victims in torture case oppose release of Timur Khamkhoev

The court postponed the consideration of an appeal concerning the conditional early relief (CER) of Timur Khamkhoev, who was sentenced in the case on torture used at the Centre for Combating Extremism (CCE) in Ingushetia. The court pronounced a too lenient sentence for Timur Khamkhoev, and he should not be released earlier than his sentence expires, the victims say.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported that in July 2017, Timur Khamkhoev, the former chief of the Centre for the Protection of the Constitutional System and the Combat against Terrorism of the Russian FSB Department for Ingushetia, was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in the case on torture at the Ingush Centre for Combating Extremism.

Magomed Aushev, a victim in the case on torture, fears the Timur Khamkhoev's release. According to the victim, he worries not so much for himself, but for the lives of his family members.

Patimat Yusupova, a sister of Magomed Daliev, killed as a result of torture, also opposes the early release of Timur Khamkhoev.

"In any case, he got a too short sentence. The court should have sentenced him to life imprisonment," the woman said.

She reported that Timur Khamkhoev threatened her during the trial, but after the verdict she received no more threats. "The only unpleasant thing is that his relatives write a lot of slander against me on social networks," Patimat Yusupova has added.
