ECtHR awards compensation to Azerbaijani activists
Azerbaijani authorities should pay almost 80,000 euros to 12 activists, arrested and fined for participating in peaceful protests, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has decided.
The ECtHR has announced its decisions on 15 complaints in relation of 13 political and public activists from Azerbaijan. The complaints were filed in connection with the arrests and fines awarded and imposed for participating in peaceful actions in 2006-2015, the ECtHR's website reports.
The Azerbaijani activists appealed to the ECtHR about violations of their rights to torture inadmissibility, the freedom and personal immunity, fair trial, freedom of expression, freedom of association and others.
The ECtHR also found violations against Fuad Gadjiev (an unjustified interference with the right to the freedom of assembly), but has not fixed any payment to him, since he himself had not put forward any claims for material compensation.
