Eight Georgian citizens detained on South-Ossetian border

Georgian residents have been detained on the Georgian-South-Ossetian border, the latter's authorities reported on August 18.

Eight Georgian citizens were detained on suspicion of illegally crossing the border, said Murat Djioev, the plenipotentiary envoy for post-conflict settlement of the President of South Ossetia.

"In the evening on August 17, eight persons, who were drunken and drug intoxicated were detained near the church in the village of Adzesar in the Tskhinvali District of the republic," Mr Djioev has explained.

According to his story, the detainees are being identified; later, a decision will be made on further measures against them, the IA "Res" writes.

A source from the State Security Service (SSS) of Georgia has confirmed the detention of eight Georgian citizens, who were placed into a detention centre in South Ossetia, the "News-Georgia" has reported today.
