Chechen residents report growth of prices for sacrificial animals

In Chechnya, the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday was held amid the growth of prices for sacrificial animals.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that August 12 and 14 were declared days off in Checnya in connection with Kurban Bayram, while the first day of the holiday in Chechnya was August 11.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Grozny resident Sakhib that prices started from 10,000 roubles for a sheep and from 50,000-60,000 roubles for a cow. "I talked to my neighbours, and we bought a calf together. It took 14,000 roubles from me," the resident of Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"I was unpleasantly surprised by the prices. They start from 10,000 roubles and go up to 16,000 roubles or even more for a sheep or a ram which is more or less big. I spent 10,000 roubles to buy a sheep, although I expected to spend 8,000-9,000 roubles on a maximum," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Umar, a resident of Grozny.

This year, the prices for sacrificial animals "have grown markedly," confirms Islam, a resident of Grozny. "Last year I bought a sheep for 8,000 roubles, while now it costs about 10,000-12,000 roubles already," the man told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Dagestani theologian Rasul Shakhov that the concept of Islam suggests a ban on price inflation. The theologian referred to the statement of the Prophet Muhammad who called it a sin to restrain from selling goods until an increase in prices. "The ban also includes the collusion of sellers in setting prices or the collusion of people of one profession in setting prices for their services," the expert explained.
