Confession to extremism causes doubts among Kurbanaliev's relatives

Kurban Kurbanaliev, a native of Dagestan, who was detained by Chechen law enforcers, was arrested on charges of links with militants, said his advocate. According to the defence, Kurbanaliev has pled guilty, but relatives doubt that this was done sincerely.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abidat Kurbanalieva, a resident of Dagestan, said that on July 19, people took her son away from Moscow to Chechnya by car without explaining the reasons for his detention.

Kurban Kurbanaliev is accused of participating in an illegal armed formation (IAF) abroad; he faces up to 15 years in prison, his advocate, Madina Saidulaeva, has stated.

Fatimat Kurbanalieva, Kurban's sister, has stated that at the meeting with his mother, he insisted on his innocence. According to her story, her brother had lived a normal life and took care of the family.

In 2018, Chechen law enforcers suspected Kurbanaliev of having links with militants, but stopped persecuting him for absence of corpus delicti.
