Gadjiev's friends hold sport tournament in his support
An amateur futsal tournament in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an arrested journalist of the "Chernovik", held in Makhachkala, attracted 14 teams.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Dagestan has already rejected 19 notifications of rallies in support of Gadjiev.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of one of the sections of the Dagestani "Chernovik", was arrested on June 18 within a terrorism financing case; however, in the opinion of Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the edition, Gadjiev has suffered for his articles on Islamic topics.
On August 4, Abdulmumin Gadjiev's friends and relatives held a mini-football (futsal) tournament in Makhachkala in honour of the detained journalist. Another goal of the tournament was to draw public attention to the detained journalist, Ziyavudin Uvaisov, a friend of Gadjiev, the head of the "Patient's Monitor" Project, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. According to his story, the tournament was attended by 14 teams of eight people each.
"Many people came here to watch, express their support and pull some team," Mr Uvaisov has stated, adding that more than 200 people came to the venue.
There were no attempts to disrupt the event. About a dozen policemen were present at the venue of the tournament, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.
The sport format of the event was chosen because Abdulmumin Gadjiev loves football and used to play with friends weekly, Ali Magomedov, another Gadjiev's friend, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
